What is the current and future state of SEO as you see it?

I read so many blogs and hear so many podcasts that say “SEO is dead” or soon will be. Do you think there is any truth to these arguments? Or does SEO just get a bad rap because there are so many people who illegitimately claim to know so much about it, but aren’t successful? I work for a large agency mainly on PPC stuff but am thinking about learning more about SEO, just don’t know much about where it’s going.

i don’t think there is truth regarding SEO as becoming a dead zone. the SEO is a helpful tool on which it helps promote a site in various ways. can you imagine if there is no more SEO’s? do you think that just by offline methods of marketing you can get a site popular? well, maybe a bit, from those who you really know.. but consider the marketing you have if your to use SEO techiniques..

future of SEO is very bright these days..u can see real time jobs at various jobsites…..everyone these days want a website.There are more than hundred new websites every month..and everyone want their website in top10….everyone cannot go for CPC/PPC….
Moreover many countries get their work outsourced from India…as India is very economic…
So u see SEO is in demand these days and the future of SEO is very bright.
My insights about SEO, I agree that it’s future is becoming cloudy and stormy because many site’s owner nowadays uses a blackhat approach for getting higher ranking position in SERP, in short they are cheating just to display a high ranking of their sites without following the legal optimization procedure. I support the last who drop his answer in your question because as you know we are going to an computerization world right now. And as long as there is an internet there will be an SEO.
I fear that what you heard is wrong. SEO is still alive. It seems SEO is dying because of the scams in the field. Moreover, most people are not aware of the new opportunities in SEO. For example google has also stepped into social media through google knol. It will be crystal clear to you that the focus is on social media today.
I think it’s mainly marketing companies and pundits comitted to non-SEO web marketing methods like CPC and CPA. SEO can only increase as free search engines are not going anywhere and web 3.0 is starting to awaken. Google will never go all-pay-for-play.
